Eco harvesting
Eco Harvesting, krill harvesting technology, brings krill on board alive and processing begins immediately. The technology, using a specially designed trawl system and direct hose connection between the trawl and the vessel, holds a special mechanism that singles out unwanted by-catch, releasing it unharmed. Eco Harvesting causes minimal environmental impact and prevents the krill from enzymatic degradation. This is the key to preserve all the key nutrients in the end product.
Our suplier´s long experience in logistics and operations under extreme conditions is an important asset. It is also an mportant reason for why the company can operate in a sustainable way to offer krill products in the global markets.
Antarctic enviroment
The Antarctic continent is a land mass covered with ice up to 4 km thick. The highest point is approximately 4 km above sea level. There is little exposed rock and, although millions of years ago there was heavy vegetation, today the only plants that grow are very small mosses and lichens. Antarctica is the highest, driest, windiest and coldest continent in the world.
About 98% of Antarctica is covered by the Antarctic ice sheet, a sheet of ice averaging at least 1.6 km thick. The continent has about 90% of the world’s ice and thereby about 70% of the world’s fresh water. If all of this ice were to melt, sea levels would rise about 60m. Antarctica is divided into two contrasting parts by the Transantarctic Mountains that cross the continent close to the ‘neck’ between the Weddell and Ross Seas.
Quality controll
Full control over the production of krill oil, from harvest to processing and encapsulation. How many steps does it take to get the purest omega-3s?
Krillan™ Krill is unique in the marine omega-3 world due to the significantly fewer processing steps needed to create the final product. Relative to other marine omega-3 sources, krill is considered a whole food extract. In fact, because it is environmentally clean in its original form, no purification or distillation is required. Furthermore, the immediate on-board processing of Krillan™ Krill prevents decomposition and degradation and protects the nutritional integrity of the product.
Certificates – MSC
The krill oil used in Krillan™ is the only one that is certified as being sustainable and 100% traceable by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). MSC requirements meet global best practice guidelines for certification and eco-labeling programs. In fact, a recent study conducted by Accenture evaluated and ranked various eco-labels according to the stringency of their standards. MSC was ranked highest of all eco-labels surveyed.
MSC’s certification is based upon the health of the target biomass and the impact on the ecosystem of the fishery management system in place. Its goal is to help transform the seafood market to a sustainable basis by recognizing and rewarding sustainable fishing practices.
